Mariam*, a refugee in Burkina Faso, urges donors and education partners to increase their support.

My name is Mariam*.

I’m in Grade 6 at a high school.

When I was in Mali, I didn’t go to school. I arrived at a refugee camp in 2014, where I started going to primary school in Burkina Faso. I got an education and school supplies for free thanks to UNHCR and its partners. The only time I got worried was in 2019 when the refugee camp was unsafe. We were relocated to another town, where my education started again and I’ve been studying ever since. I’m in Grade 6. In 2020, I received school kits including a school lamp so that I can work hard at night and thanks to that, I’ve worked hard.

I’m making a heartfelt appeal to the State of Burkina Faso and its partners such as UNHCR, CREDO and UNICEF to help pupils who urgently need education in the Sahel. Help in the form of school supplies, education and everything that protects children’s education and above all, an increase in the number of schools in my town and in the Sahel in particular.

Thank you to all of the donors and the education partners.
