ECW-supported joint programme with UNICEF in the Kalemie area of Tanganyika province offers a compelling model for increasing access to education – especially for girls – by eradicating gender-based violence and building a secure post-conflict future.

La directrice de la Coopération Britannique Laura Mazal, a alerté que plus de 60% des enfants de la province du Tanganyika n’ont pas accès à l’éducation.

Sur ce, « Éducation Sans Délai », a mis en place un projet ayant pour objectif d’offrir une éducation de qualité pour qu’ils puissent reconstruire leur futur.

In Afar, UNHCR and partner Edukans organized a workshop on 20 October, to launch the Education Cannot Wait program for refugees and host communities. The aim is to improve learning through equitable, access to quality, safe, gender sensitive and protective education for emergency affected girls, boys and children with disabilities living in camps and host communities.

In a report released by the Ministry of Education and Science in Ukraine, 2677 educational institutions have been damaged by bombing and shelling, with 331 of them are completely destroyed as of October 21, 2022.

The report also details several meetings between the ministry and international agencies, which includes the likes of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), European Union, and Foreign Policy Instrument of the European Commission.

In this context, since 2021, in partnership with NORCAP and supported by Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), UNESCO is implementing activities in Ethiopia, South Sudan and at the global level, with the aim of strengthening institutional information systems for education in emergencies and resilience to crises.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and its strategic partners, including Save the Children, are calling on bilateral donors and foundations to provide at least $1.5 billion to ECW ahead of its High-Level Financing Conference in 2023, so it can deliver its ambitious new plan for 2023-2026. ECW works through the UN multilateral system to both increase the speed of responses in crises and connect immediate relief and longer-term interventions through multi-year programming. 

The Education Cannot Wait fund has invested more than $58 million in education in Afghanistan since 2017, some of it through emergency responses and some through a multiyear resilience program launched in 2019. Owing to the dedicated work of our partners, this funding has reached 51% of Afghanistan’s young female students and more than 181,000 girls and boys altogether.

For her part, the head of a United Nations fund for education urged donors to step up their support so that the 222 million children and adolescents around the world caught up in emergencies and protracted crises can continue to learn.

Education is “the very foundation” of the global vision of sustainable development, respect for human rights and the maintenance of peace and security, said Yasmine Sherif, Director of Education Cannot Wait.

La responsable de la principal iniciativa de la ONU para la educación instó a los donantes a aumentar el apoyo para que los 222 millones de niños y adolescentes atrapados en emergencias y crisis prolongadas del mundo puedan seguir aprendiendo.

La educación es la base de la visión global para el desarrollo sostenible, el respeto por los derechos humanos y el mantenimiento de la paz y la seguridad, aseveró Yasmine Sherif, directora de “La educación no puede esperar”.

De son côté, la responsable d'un fonds des Nations Unies pour l’éducation a exhorté les bailleurs de fonds à intensifier leur soutien afin que les 222 millions d'enfants et d'adolescents dans le monde pris dans des situations d'urgence et des crises prolongées puissent continuer à apprendre. 

L'éducation est « le fondement même » de la vision globale du développement durable, du respect des droits humains et du maintien de la paix et de la sécurité, a déclaré Yasmine Sherif, Directrice d’Education Sans Délai (Education Cannot Wait).
